Youth Yoga Workshop- In Person
Our Kids classes are geared towards building EQ (emotional quotient) which is a big factor in a child's success in life. We use chantings, balancing, and gazing practices to improve their memory, concentration and focus. We show them that learning can be fun which motivates them to stay focused. Positive Affirmations used in class (for reference)
Starting mantras are peace affirmations that wish health, happiness and harmony for the individual, society and for universe as a whole.
We chant syllables such as A, U, M and AUM for relaxation and soothing vibrations. There is no religion associated with it. These are the Beeja mantras or sounds without any meaning associated with them so that they can be used to calm down the mind and bring about total silence.
Below are few mantras with meanings:
Opening mantra: Meaning:
AUM Sahanavavatu; May we both be protected (student and teacher);
Sahanau bhunaktu; May we both be nourished;
Saha veeryam karavavahai; May we both acquire energy (by this education);
Tejaswinavadhitamastu; Let there be no conflict between us.
Ma vidvisavahai. AUM shantih, shantih, shantih. AUM. Peace, Peace, Peace
Closing mantra: Meaning:
Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah May all be happy;
Sarve Santu Niramayah May all be free from illness;
Sarve Bhadrani Pashyantu May all behold what is auspicious
Ma Kashchit Dukha Bhagbhavet. May none suffer from sorrow
Suryanamaskaras mantra: Meaning:
Hiranmayena Patrena Like a lid to a vessel,
Satyasyapihitam Mukham O Sun! The lid (of material pleasures)
Tat tvam pushan Apavrunu That resembles your golden orb covers
Satyadharmaya Drustaye The entrance of truth. Kindly open the same and lead us to truth.
Youth of today are under heavy stress. Stress is a reaction to the external situation and not the situation itself. Some students are relaxed even the day before exams and some are stressed weeks before the exams. This shows that we have control over our reaction to external situation. Can the child be relaxed and yet handle all that is needed to be done to excel and meet the parents/schools’ expectations? Absolutely, and yoga helps with that. Yoga creates the entire support system and provides a stress-free environment for a healthy child.
