As a society, more and more of us are becoming habituated to quick-fix solutions, even for health issues.
But if any real change is desired, health has to be addressed in it's totality which alone provides a balanced approach.
This is where Yoga Therapy steps in. For most people, Yoga has become synonymous with physical postures.
However these postures are infact only a part of what Yoga is about.
Yoga Therapy is based on the knowledge that we exist as a mind-body-spirit complex.
Therefore, it is only when these aspects are functioning in harmonious alignment, that true good health and vitality is experienced.
Yoga Therapy works on the understanding that an imbalance or disturbance in any of the components of mind-body-spirit, not just the physical body, manifests in the form of disorders, either at the mental and/or the physical level.
It therefore, makes holistic use of selected Asanas[postures], Breathing practices, and Relaxation techniques alone or in combination to address a specific health challenge.
Stress is a major aggravating factor in many disorders, therefore it is vital to address how we can manage stress.
Yoga Therapy has several techniques to enable self-awareness and stress-management.
Back Pain, Gastro-intestinal disorders, Diabetes, Asthma, Arthritis are amongst the various health problems where Yoga Therapy is being used.
We all know the beneficial effects of Yoga on general health, but few of us are aware about the role of Yoga as a therapeutic tool. Yoga Therapy can fit into most people’s lifestyles to form a supportive system for enhancing health, managing certain health issues, and in aiding the healing process. Yoga therapy is mainly adopted as a holistic approach to balance, harmonize & tackle the disturbances in our body and to enable greater self-awareness.
